How Does a Bank Cash In On Valentine’s?

He placed a red enveloped card in her hand as they sat facing each other in the car.

‘Open it,’ he said quietly, smiling…

Adenike could not, for the life of her, guess what was in the envelope as she opened it carefully. It contained a handwritten letter addressed to her. As she unfolded it, a bright orange payment card fell out; it was a GTBank Naira MasterCard. “What’s going on?” she thought to herself, her heart beating faster. And then she read…

“Every Valentine I buy you something lovely. This valentine I wanted to give you the world, but I couldn’t do it on my own. So I got you a GTBank Naira MasterCard linked to my account, so you can buy the world anytime, anywhere, anyway you want. All I have is yours, and I know you’ll keep it well! Your Beau”

Would it not have made much more sense to attach an ACTUAL promotion to GTBank’s Valentine’s Day ad campaign? This might encourage more people to actually use the card instead of just being aware of it but little extra motivation to encourage usage. It’d be interesting to see the ROI on this campaign….zero?
